Ricotta with Honey Drizzle and Fresh Figs or Grapes

Dessert • South Africa

A simple, everyday dessert that feels special: lightly sweetened ricotta topped with fresh figs (when in season) or juicy grapes, plus a touch of honey and crunch from toasted nuts.

Why smarter

Ricotta gives a satisfying creamy base with protein, while the sweetness mostly comes from fruit and a measured drizzle of honey instead of heavy cream or large amounts of sugar.

Chef tip

If your ricotta is a bit wet, spoon it into a sieve for 10 minutes to thicken—your topping will sit nicely instead of pooling.

Soft line

Fresh, creamy, and just sweet enough.

Ingredients

# Ingredient Text Amount Unit Ingredient Name Notes
1 Ricotta 400.000 g Ricotta Plain; tub ricotta is fine
2 Honey (light drizzle) 2.000 tbsp Honey About 1/2 tbsp per serving
3 Fresh figs, quartered 8.000 medium Fresh figs Or substitute grapes below
4 Red or black grapes 300.000 g Grapes Use instead of figs; halved if large
5 Chopped almonds or walnuts 30.000 g Almonds or walnuts Optional but recommended for crunch
6 Ground cinnamon 0.500 tsp Cinnamon Optional
7 Vanilla extract 0.500 tsp Vanilla extract Optional
8 Lemon zest 1.000 tsp Lemon zest Optional, for freshness
9 Pinch of salt 1.000 pinch Salt Balances sweetness

Method

  1. If the ricotta looks watery, spoon it into a sieve set over a bowl and drain for about 10 minutes.
  2. If using nuts, toast them in a dry pan over medium heat for 2–3 minutes until fragrant; cool, then chop (or use pre-chopped nuts).
  3. Prep the fruit: quarter the figs, or rinse grapes and halve any large ones.
  4. In a bowl, mix the ricotta with vanilla (if using), lemon zest (if using), cinnamon (if using) and a pinch of salt.
  5. Divide the ricotta between 4 small bowls or glasses and smooth the tops with the back of a spoon.
  6. Top each portion with figs or grapes.
  7. Drizzle a little honey over each serving (aim for a light drizzle rather than a pour).
  8. Finish with the toasted nuts (if using). Serve immediately, or chill for up to 30 minutes for a firmer, cooler dessert.
